Scrabble Word BuilderScrabble Dictionary WordbuilderBy Chris Perrin A Scrabble dictionary wordbuilder is an online word building tool which creates a comprehensive list of English words based on the letters you enter into the wordbuilding tool. Because a online Scrabble Word Constructers are built specifically for English-speaking Scrabble players who are playing word games on the Internet, these word games resources draw their word selections from official dictionaries used by the Scrabble playing community. These Scrabble word producers are kind of the dirty little secret of online Scrabble competitors, because there's really no way to prove that person who keeps beating you on a Scrabble website isn't using a Scrabble cheat tool. While Scrabble sites and several Scrabble word builder sites suggest you use their tools only when you're stumped, everyone knows that everyone else is likely to be using an electronic word game resource to help them conjure Scrabble words quickly. That being said, a Scrabble word construction program has its place in the word game industry, because it does help players see the possibilities before them. And since Scrabble tournament players can't lean on the crutch of a Scrabble word building site, those great online players have to prove it when they go live. Scrabble Dictionary Word Building OptionsIf you have spent much time playing online Scrabble you’ve doubtlessly heard of sites like Cheat O Matic. Going by the name Scrabble word builder, Scrabble dictionary word builder, or plain, old fashioned Scrabble cheats, these sites allow you to enter the letters you have in your hand and the letters on the board and the produce all of the possible words you can play. A Scrabble word builder is a fantastic tool for use in online Scrabble play. It’s less than ideal for face-to-face competition where everyone can see that you are getting a little help. Before getting into some of these Scrabble dictionary wordbuilders, though, a word of caution to those searching for them: the term “Scrabble cheat” seems to be a loaded word for spammer sites. In the process of doing some research on this topic, I ran a few Bing.com searches and noticed that a number of less-than-honest sites popped up in the results. One of those sites asked me to install an “anti-virus” program on my computer which probably would have been a nice piece of spyware. Therefore, you should really check out the four Scrabble word builder sites listed here. If none of them are to your liking and you want a different site to help you cheat at Scrabble, be very careful with your searches. Because it does not have the word “cheat” in it, searching for “Scrabble dictionary wordbuilder” appears to be less dangerous. With that being said, if you want to play online, you have your choice of Scrabble word builders. The granddaddy of the Scrabble dictionary wordbuilder sites is called Cheat O Matic. (Don’t let the name fool you, it’s pretty much expected that people use Scrabble dictionary wordbuilders in online play.) Cheat-O-Matic Scrabble Word BuilderCheat-O-Matic is a good tool and it can be a good resource for those just starting with Scrabble cheat sites. It allows you to enter in all of the tiles you have in your hand as well as any tiles on the board you might want to build off of. It then runs a powerful, fast search to return a list of all the words you are eligible to play with those letters. On the other hand, though, there are some things that the "Cheat O Matic Scrabble Word Builder" doesn’t do so well. For instance, the site only supports a single blank tile when doing searches. If you have both wild cards, the site informs you that is “tough” and it won’t support it. It’s also difficult to handle letters on the board rather than those in your hand. For instance, if you add the letter “A” to your search because it’s a possibility on the board, the tool is going to return words that start with A, words that have A in the second spot, third sport, fourth spot, etc. It’s not a huge a problem, but it can make using the site more difficult. More Scrabble Word Builders - Win Every GameThe good news is that if you find that you really want to have a cheat at Scrabble tool that gives you more options, they do exist. In fact, there are at least three other sites that offer additional features for discerning Scrabble word builders who need to find the perfect Scrabble word. The first of these sites is WinEveryGame.com which features a much easier to use interface than Cheat O Matic, the ability to enter up to twelve characters at once (in case you are evaluating several tiles on the board), the option to enter up to three wildcards (instead of being limited to just one), and, best of all, fields to enter what characters the word should begin with and end with. As Scrabble dictionary word builders go, WinEveryGame.com is definitely a step above Cheat O Matic. The ability to enter multiple wildcards can be a lifesaver for those times when it is needed and for games beyond basic Scrabble which might feature multiple wildcard tiles. Even more important, though, the ability to say that a word must begin or end with a certain set of letters is really what sets WinEveryGame.com’s Scrabble helper apart from the Cheat O Matic. It makes the site more usable and cuts down on the words that cannot be played. Still, it is not as powerful as the other two Scrabble word builder sites. Scrabble Cheat Online Scrabble Word BuilderThe next step up from WinEveryGame.com is ScrabbleCheat.com, which offers multiple wild cards and allows users to enter up to ten letters for searching. The really cool thing about ScrabbleCheat.com is that you can “bind” your letters into certain positions. This means that you can type a sequence of letters and say that the letter you enter third has to be third letter in the word. For instance, if you typed “ABCDEF” and bound the first and third letters, ScrabbleCheat.com would only return those words that started with A and or words that stated with A and had C as the third letter. Very powerful for those times when you are trying to squeeze the best possible word into a tight space. Of course, with power of features oftentimes comes complexity in the interface. ScrabbleCheat.com is no different. Not that the site is hard to use, but it may take a few searches to figure out how the binding works. Also, the site’s submit button is labeled oddly, which may very well through some users off. Word Games Central Scrabble HelperThe final Scrabble dictionary word builder, WordGamesCentral.com’s Scrabble Helper is perhaps the best of four Scrabble sites. It allows multiple blank tiles, which is an improvement over Cheat O Matic. However, its best feature is the three fields it has on the site labeled: “Begins With”, “Ends With”, and “In Between” which allows you to say what the word has to start with, end with, and letters that come in the middle, respectively. This functionality makes the site very similar to ScrabbleCheat’s binding option, however, it does it in a more user-friendly fashion. In fact, overall, it is the easiest Scrabble dictionary worldbuilder to use and perhaps the best on the Internet. Code 123 Scrabble Word ProducerThe "Code 123 Scrabble Word Builder" site offers the same services and even lets you build Scrabble words according to the "SOWPODS" or "TWL" official Scrabble dictionaries. The SOWPODS dictionary is the official Scrabble dictionary used by Scrabble organizations and tournaments in every country worldwide except the United States, Canada and Thailand. "SOWPODS" is a combination of the old "OSPD" and "OSW" Scrabble dictionaries, which combined into the SOWPODS acronym. Strangely, there's no official SOWPODS dictionary, though the word list used by the "Collins Scrabble Words" or CSW dictionary is effectively the SOWPODS word list. The TWL or "tournament word list" dictionary is a word list used by Scrabble tournaments and word clubs in the United States, Canada and Thailand. If you want to look at the differences in TWL and SOWPODS, you can find both Scrabble dictionaries online. But if you're playing online Scrabble at Scrabulous, you're likely to be more interested in a Scrabble word producer like Code123 than in a long, dry list of words. While the Code 123 Scrabble word producer is pretty basic, the site does give you a quick resource to find words for any official Scrabble format worldwide and I've found the lists have a quick loading speed and are comprehensive. The Code 123 word building tool is therefore quick, flexible and comprehensive. A2Z WordFinder - Word Pattern MatchingThe A2Z Wordbuilder website claims to be a resource for people needing to find word combinations not just for Scrabble, but also live and online word games like Literati, anagrams and word puzzles. A2Z also suggests teachers searching for word options and word constructions can also use their tools. A2Z ends up having a variety of word construction tools, including a traditional Scrabble word builder and a partial letters lookup tool. A "partial letters lookup" allows you to place in the beginning or ending letters of a word, then place the letters you have in hand, and then looks up the word combination which can come from this. In a Scrabble setting, looking up possible beginnings and endings is often more valuable than finding a word combination for a random 7-letter sequence. That's because you're needing to place these letters on a real Scrabble board by building words off word stems or letters. So a partial word lookup and wordbuilder becomes a highly useful word contructor. For those who love other wordgames, you can find a Literati wordfinder, a Crossword wordfinder, a Jumble wordfinder, word verification to learn if a word or combination of letter has any meaning or official definition, as well as word finders for anagrams, Jamble and WordOx. Of course, if you've read this far, you probably are interested in Scrabble wordfinders. While A-2-Z doesn't have too much more than what you'll find on other word construction websites, you might find the partial word tool to be particularly helpful when playing Scrabble online. Scrabble Solver - Scrabble Wordbuilders ListIf you want a Scrabble wordbuilder completely stripped down with no adds, pop-ups or pictures, the Scrabble Solver by Adam at NTL World is the perfect Scrabble word constructor for you. The Scrabble Solver is a white page with no background and simple one-click tool where you add the letters you have and the word combinations appear on a list in a white box, with the total number of words listed. That's about it. There are some links to some word puzzle sites and wordbuilders Adam likes at the bottom of the page, but otherwise, there's nothing else to get in your way. If you want to build words with one of the two "blank tiles" from Scrabble, all you do is add a / and the word producers produces a list of words with all the possibilities a blank tile would offer. That's something a few of the more elaborate Scrabble word constructors I've encountered have forgotten in their programs. Why would you want to have your Scrabble words built on a less elaborate page? Well, if you're computer or operating system has slow load times for one reason or another, or you're one of the ten people left in America still on dial-up, Adam's Scrabble Solver is a great Scrabble wordbuilder option. Some people, like myself, prefer simple and uncomplicated. Scrabble Dictionaries and WordbuildersYou'll find some Scrabble purists who despise the Scrabble wordbuilders, preferring their opponents and Scrabble playing friends use their wits, their vocabulary and their knowledge of Scrabble dictionaries alone to build their Scrabble skills. That's a perfectly legitimate stance to take and, when I play Scrabble online, I prefer to know whether I'm playing against a real person or a Scrabble word builders with a real person only inputting data. Certainly, if my online Scrabble opponent and I agree to go by the honor system and play without Scrabble wordbuilders being used, I expect my Scrabble rival to honor their part of the agreement. But I also believe a Scrabble word builder has a place in the Scrabble-playing world. For one, there's still a skill to finding the best letter combination to play in the particular Scrabble game you're playing. Two, looking at all the possible word combinations gets you in the habit of looking at lots of Scrabble words in competition and going over in your head the full possibilities, which I believe helps in Scrabble word memorization. So if you decide you want to delve into the world of online Scrabble and use one or more of the Scrabble word building resources I've listed, you have my blessing to use a Scrabble wordbuilder to compete. |
